It has been years (a year after her death in 2001 to be exact) since the idea of a movie for the late talented beautiful R&B Songtress Aaliyah
It was originally set for Actress and R&B singer Keisha Chante to play the late singer, according to Bossip and Essence Singer Solange Knowles (sister of Singer/Actress Beyonce Knowles) will play Aaliyah.
After an audition back in July, 2013 it has been rumored that she actually snagged the part.
We will have to see if this is really accurate, take a look at the two photos below to see who you would vote to be cast to play Aaliyah.
* Aaliyah was a prolific R&B star and on the rise Actress she played in “Romeo Must Die” and “Queen of the Damned” before passing, she was also the original pick for the recent
movie “Sparkle” that starred the late singer Whitney Houston.

If this is true….Honestly I think the only reason she got the role is because she is Beyonce’s sister and you know how connections can get you from place to place. I really don’t think she embodies Aaliyah’s energy. I mean Aaliyah is naturally a lovable person. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about her and everyone always wanted to be her friend. But perhaps Solange can prove me wrong.

I agree, and once again it’s about bringing in an audience with a “name” you are very accurate when you mentioned she does not “resonate” an AAliyah “spirit” for lack of a better word, aside from her look.
The picture in this post is the closest to how she could “look” like AAliyah. If you noticed in the pictures below Keisha Chante’ is the closest look a like and (almost exactly) and she resonantes that Aaliyah persona.

I feel like u should at least have someone who looks like the person that the biopic is about rather than for reputation purpose, “Knowles” I do agree with Keisha Chante’ playing her… if she could pull off the persona of Aaliyah as well, then im happy. as for solange… I just not convinced.

@ Buisness I am in complete agreement with you. It is no mystery that studios are only interested in bringing in numbers by the name versus greenlighting an authentic film where the actor/actress that is cast to play a non-fictional character, I just cant see Solange resonating with the audience she doesnt even have that “aura” let alone the physical appearance of Aaliyah. Keisha chante comes so close to the “real” deal it is almost eerie, it’s like Aaliyah in present times, she can also sing and is not a bad dancer either. We will have to see, I am definately following this all the way until the premiere hopefully the producers will reconsider, especially since Chante’ was the first one up for the role in the first place

I actually believe neither of these women would be fit to portray as Aaliyah. I would say Tiffany Evans would be perfect. Please do some research and watch some of her on Youtube videos that are posted on her channel, so you can get an understanding to why I feel this way.

I just checked out ms Tiffany Evans, I can see why you would feel she should also be up for the role, I can kinda see her too up for the role.
However My vote still goes to Keisha Chante.

Solange Knowles is NOT a good fit to play Aaliyah!!! I hope that the casting directors do Aaliyah justice and cast the RIGHT person to portray her. Casting Solange would be an injustice.

WHEN I READ THE ARTICLE AND SAW THAT THEY WERE CONSIDERING SOLANGE I SAID NO, HOWEVER WHEN I SAW THE SIDE BY SIDE PICTURE I CHANGED MY MIND. I THINK SHE WOULD MAKE A GREAT AALIYAH. SHE IS SO DIFFERENT FROM BEYONCE, WARMER EVEN, AND I AM A BEYONCE FAN BUT SHE AND HER SISTER ARE TOTAL OPPOSITES. I WOULD ACTUALLY LIKE TO SEE SONLAGE STEP UP TO THE ROLE AND MAKE IT HER OWN.

I don’t think none of them should be up for the role aaliya! Lolita Price should play the role she can sing, dance, and has that soft beautiful spirit like aaliyah and they look JUST ALIKE!
